==Early life==
Kestner was born in Minnesota to parents Kevin and Mary Kestner in 1995. She is the second youngest of seven siblings in her family.〔http://www.twincities.com/localnews/ci_25678347/minnesota-teen-molly-kate-kestners-youtube-ballad-goes〕 She attended Austin High School in Austin, where she participated in the school choir, and graduated in 2014. Kestner attended North Central University, before leaving to pursue a record deal with Atlantic Records. Kestner is a Christian. She grew up in a musical family and started playing the violin at a young age.
Before the success of "His Daughter", Kestner performed covers and original material and put them on YouTube for extended family members too far away from her and her family. In addition to singing and piano, Kestner is also an accomplished violinist. Adding to her accolades, Kestner was chosen as a state representative for the Distinguished Young Women scholarship program and competed in June 2014 for the title, along with lifetime friends Miiko and Nico, representatives from Idaho and New Mexico, respectively. Still friends today, both hope to star in upcoming music videos alongside Dayle Embleton of Rhode Island, Madeline Powell of Alabama, and Alex Grady of Iowa.
